Three separate limits
Watching two streams at once runs into three different ceilings, and it helps to know which one you are hitting.
Your plan. Subscriptions allow a certain number of simultaneous connections. Two streams means two connections, whether they are on one screen or two devices. If your plan allows one, multiview will not work regardless of how good your equipment is — this is the limit covered in using IPTV on multiple devices.
Your device. Every stream has to be decoded, and decoding is the heaviest thing a streaming device does. Two at once is roughly twice the work.
Your connection. Two streams use roughly twice the bandwidth of one, and — more importantly — need it steadily at the same moment.
Most disappointment with multiview comes from hitting the second or third of these on hardware that handles a single stream perfectly well.
Why the device is usually the problem
A single 1080p stream is comfortable for almost any modern stick or box, because the work is done by a dedicated hardware decoder rather than the main processor.
The catch is that most devices have one such decoder. A second stream frequently falls back to software decoding, which is far slower and runs on the general processor. That is why the second window is often the one that stutters while the first stays smooth, and why the whole device can become sluggish at the same time.
This effect is much stronger with H.265 content, for the reasons set out in H.264 vs H.265. Two H.265 streams is a genuinely demanding request; two H.264 streams is far more likely to work.
Heat matters too. Small sticks throttle when they get hot, and sustained double decoding is exactly the workload that heats them. A setup that works for ten minutes and degrades over an hour is usually thermal, not a network problem.
What it costs on the connection

What is less obvious is that the steadiness requirement roughly doubles too. A connection with occasional small wobbles usually hides them on one stream, because the player has buffer to spare. Running two halves the margin, so the same connection that looked flawless starts showing interruptions.
This is why multiview is a good stress test. If it stutters, your connection was closer to its limit than a single stream suggested.
Which players can do it
Multiview is a player feature, not a service feature, so it depends entirely on the app you use.
Support falls into three rough groups. Some players offer a genuine multi-window mode with two, four or more panes. Some offer only picture-in-picture — one main stream with a small floating second one, which is common on phones and tablets. Many offer neither, and there is no setting that adds it.

Audio is worth knowing about in advance: you hear one stream at a time. Every implementation makes you pick which pane has sound, because mixing two commentaries is unusable.
When two devices is the better answer
Multiview is not always the right tool, and often is not.
Two devices — a television and a tablet, say — splits the decoding work across two processors instead of doubling it on one. Each stream gets a full hardware decoder, each gets its own buffer, and you get proper audio control on each.
The cost is the same as multiview on your plan: two connections either way. But the reliability is usually much better, especially for the demanding case of two live sports feeds.
A reasonable rule: use multiview when you want one main match and a glance at another, and two devices when you genuinely care about both.
If it stutters
- Close everything else on the device first — background apps compete for exactly the resource that is short.
- Try two lower-quality or SD feeds if your service offers alternatives. Two light streams often work where two heavy ones do not.
- Use a wired connection. The doubled steadiness requirement is where Wi-Fi variation shows up first.
- Check whether one stream alone is clean. If a single stream also stutters, this is not a multiview problem and the buffering guide is the right place.
- Let the device cool if the problem appears gradually rather than immediately.
